A Million Different Ways

I’m a fairly introspective and self-reflecting person by nature. But, I believe it’s fair to say that I’ve only increased this characteristic in recent years.

I’ve experienced many significant “life-events” within the previous three-or-so years.

Engaged.

College Graduation.

Purchase of first house.

Married.

Birth of first child.

Kickstart of this platform.

Career change.

Expecting child number two.

I’d say that is quite the list for a few short years, no?

All this to say – such a journey has brought about a deep level of and need for reflection and self-examination. This means, of course, it is something that occurs on a daily basis.

As of currently, this seems to be at an all-time high. As my wife and I soak up the remaining months with our daughter as a family of three before welcoming our newest member to the crew, my mind is littered with memories, deep thoughts, hopes and prayers.

Perhaps more than anything, though, is this lingering feeling of gratitude. A sincere and palpable level of graciousness for the life I live and for the people within it. For my wife, my daughters, my close brothers, and the roots that extend beyond it all via many others who love and support my family and I regularly.

All of these thoughts and feelings, I presume, are due to the understanding that what I am blessed with in this moment is due to the perfect series of events leading up to it. The understanding that it all could have gone a million different ways. I could be in a million different places, with a million different people, with a million different experiences.

Everything that is now, stands as a byproduct of a plan far greater than anything I could feasibly imagine or act out on my own.

What other way could I possibly describe such beautiful gifts? How else can it be so?

I urge you to take this as a call-to-action for yourself to do some similar reflection. In the best way you know how, imagine the vastly different life you could be living, had just one event transpired in any way other than exactly as it did.

How incredible is it, when you really think about it? The mere fact that we stand in this place in time, with little-to-no understanding of how lucky we actually are?

This, no matter what, remains true throughout the test of time.

We’re exactly where we’re supposed to be.

Forge on.
