Sometimes life can seem redundant.
Believe it or not, I’ve grown to find some strong value in said redundancy, which I’ve detailed in the past.
That said, for better or for worse, it is undeniable in this existence of ours. We face days that drag, and moments of confusion in all that we do. Naturally, we question things – or, at least we should.
Under such a circumstance, when we question something, be it our career, our extra-curricular involvement(s), our daily habits and schedules, anything – how do we decipher what is worth additional consideration versus what stands to be but only a minor “bump in the road’ so-to-speak.
It’s a good, and complicated question, really. One that I don’t have much of an answer for.
I don’t believe that any of us do, do we?
All this to say, we’re sure to run into these phases where we’re just simply bogged down and the most advantageous course of action is to power through. In that same breath, however, we WILL, at some point or another, feel that some sort of change must be made. A moment in time where there is this increasingly convincing voice inside your head and within your heart that tells you it is in your best interest to move in another direction.
This is one of those fine lines that takes some serious thought and inspection. Nothing about it is easy, that much I know for sure.
Speaking from lived experience – quite recent lived experience at that, it’s with great confidence that I can say change can be, without question, a frightening thing. Stepping into the unknown, no matter how calculated the leap, comes with no shortage of “what-if’s” and continuous contemplation.
I’ll admit my guilt in this regard, without shame.
I’ve long been known to “what-if” myself into oblivion.
We all do it, to some degree, and here is what I’ve come to learn:
“What if I fail?”
“What if I had taken the risk?”
One of these quotes, is you as you currently stand.
The other, is you at the tailend of your life, as you reflect on the things that filled your time here on this earth.
Pretty sobering to think about, isn’t it?
Which is it going to be?
Once you’re able to pick out something in your life that most certainly needs to change, and you lock eyes with the risk that accompanies it, it’s up to you to choose. You get to decide if you’ll allow the ‘what-if’s” of today to cause an even more difficult and disheartening “what-if” many years down the road.
Perform a personal audit. Do the legwork necessary to come to a conclusion – do you need to make a change?
Decide, then do.
Forge on.
