Sovereignty, Continued

Last week, I wrote a little bit about the concept of sovereignty. More so, I discussed what it means to live a sovereign life. In doing so, I detailed that living with complete sovereignty is essentially one’s ability to live out of a place of liberty with the freedom to do what you want, when you want, how you want. This includes, most of all, providing intense focus to what is most important to you and making those things the epicenter of all that you are and all that you do.

Sure enough, the topic has remained heavy on my mind throughout this week, while simultaneously presenting itself multiple times in content that I’ve consumed.

In a recent podcast with Chris Williamson, former Military Special Ops and UFC fighter, Tim Kennedy, spoke on the value in developing a sovereign lifestyle – something that he has become a firm proponent of. In this discussion, a quote that stuck out to me went as follows:

“In order to live a sovereign life, you have to align your actions with your purpose! If you take a hard look in the mirror and decide that these things aren’t aligned, it’s time to make a change.”

This is something that I’ve (inadvertently, I think) written about in the past, without necessarily understanding the correlation to sovereignty itself. Finding Your “Why” for living and pursuing whatever it is you feel called to do are a couple of related topics in which I’ve touched on, but didn’t internally relate to the word sovereign at the time.

That said – I decided to go back and read some of these older ideas of mine.

Here’s what I found:

“Change” has been on my mind and in my writing for all of a calendar year now.

Just as Tim Kennedy states that if your actions don’t align with your purpose, change must be made, I (many times) have gone on record saying that where you currently find yourself may not be what this life ultimately has in store for you.

Example #1:

“The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”

Such a clever statement.

Although, I can’t help but question, is it entirely accurate? Meaning that if you are unhappy in your current state, be it your career, your location – whatever it is, is there really no greener pasture?

I’m here to state, quite contrary to popular belief, that there is a possibility of greener grass on that other side – and, that just because there was once a “why,” does not mean for certain that it still exists.

In my mind, it’s really fairly simple. The green grass is present where your “why” exists. That may not be where you find yourself currently, meaning that it may just be on the other side. (From “Finding Your Why,” April 12, 2023)

Example #2:

We’ve all heard the phrase; “I believe I’ve found my calling.”

But – what does it mean, really? Can we say with absolute certainty? Sort of. It’s complicated. Such is life, right?

By its most pure definition – at least in this particular usage of the phrase – for one to find their “calling” is to discover what they were destined to become, or what they were made to accomplish in their lifetime.

I’m a firm believer in this – that every single human being is born to become something unique and wonderful and important in its own right. Whether that be someone who is brought into this world to become a preacher, or a professional athlete. Even someone who endures a life-altering tragedy only to use such an event to become a prolific and powerful public speaker. (From “Answer The Call,” June 15, 2023)

So, what does all of this mean?

To me, it means that the connection between it all is no mistake. It indicates that it must hold some importance, in the grand scheme of this life I’m living and in the direction I’m headed.

Without purpose, or without a “why,” we are on a path to nowhere – nowhere worth going, that is.

Defining, or re-defining what it is that we’re after – the purpose that we’ve established for our lives, is step one of this entire mission that I’ve embarked upon – Forged in Fire as a whole.

To discover what it is that we are meant to be, or set in place to become is a powerful thing and serves as the catalyst for any sort of forward progress. And so, my question to you is this:

What is your purpose? What is it that guides your actions and the thoughts and ideas circulating through that brain of yours?

If you’ve answered those questions already, that’s great. The easy part is done. The real question that must be answered AND acted upon is:

Is it time to make a change?

Chances are, the answer is yes. Chances are, the life you envision for yourself is a far-cry from the actions you’re living out on a daily basis. Chances are, you’ve got work to do.

Now it’s time to get to it.
