You Are Meant for More

To be honest, this could mean anything.

What is “more?”

Who is capable of defining it?

Are you? Am I? Who really knows? I certainly don’t.

That said, what I do know – and what is becoming increasingly obvious – is that we as a human species are limited (heavily) by the complex piece of hardware between our ears.

Our brain acts as the catalyst of all bodily functions. It is capable of some absolutely incredible things. It is the driving force behind all forms of greatness that have ever graced this world that we call home.

And still, it often serves as a stiff barrier between what we are today and what we should rightly become.

More simply put – we over think things, and then we die.

We die, without reaching our fullest potential, with so much left to give. We die, and we long for something that we never took the chance to become, something that our hearts yearned for but our minds stood firmly against.

Good News! If you’re reading this, you’re not dead yet.

Meaning, something more can (and should) still be on the horizon. You can find, and achieve whatever it is you were destined to become.

Life is weird in this way, I’ve recently found.

Some discover what it is they were placed here to be at an extremely young age and others very old. Some think they’ve got it nailed down, only to later realize that they couldn’t have been more wrong. And, of course, the most unfortunate are those who search high and low for the entirety of their lifetime, ultimately finding their grave unfulfilled and confused.

Me, I’m somewhere in the middle, per usual. Floating somewhere in the overall abyss of possibilities for this existence of mine.

I’m fortunate in that I’m lock-tight on what it is that I was created to be – a leader.

In that same breath, how I utilize such a calling is an ever-evolving process. What it looks like now, may not be what it looks like a year from now, and even still a decade down the road – you ought to catch my drift.

The same is true within your life – or, it certainly may be if it is not currently.

Maybe, for example, you feel drawn to serving as a statistician but you are stuck at a dead-end job in a stuffy cubicle under bright LED overhead lights. You believe that you’re capable of something else.

Something, of course, that can and will allow you to utilize the skills you’ve been given and spent countless hours, days and years sharpening.

Something that guides all that is supposed to fall into place, to do just that.

Something more.

Here, we return to the question of “what is ‘More’?” How can we ever know when we’ve found it? What can we do to move toward it?

In my own life, reflection is the only answer applicable.

Reflection, that is, on life as it currently exists. Our place in it, those who surround us, how it is that we choose to spend our days, goals that we have for the short-term and the long.

Make a list of your priorities. Are you acting in accordance with them?

Take a look at those goals of yours. Are you willing to make the sacrifices necessary to make them a reality?

Understand that “more” isn’t the same for you as it is for me. Move onward knowing that sometimes less is more, and more is less.

This life, which we are blessed by beyond comprehension, only occurs once. One hack is all we’re granted. How will you make the most of it?

Will you step up and dive headlong into what it takes to achieve your “more”? Or, will you die wishing that you had, when the opportunity presented itself.

Don’t be that person.

Take the risk. Die knowing that you lived – you really, truly lived.
